Ragnärok19861992Ragnärok formed in 1986 by school friends Dean Smith, Dirk Mrozek & Steven Kay-Clough. Started out as a cover band after attending gigs in Johannesburg watching all of the bands mentioned in the 1st wave. They played their first gig in 1987 at the Irish Club in Hillbrow and were offered the resident slot every weekend for the next 2 years. They soon started writing original music in the style of thrash metal. Although some press articles claimed Ragnärok to be South Africa’s first thrash metal act, this title belongs to Osiris hailing from Pretoria.
